POSITION TITLE -- FIELD TECHNICIAN

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs routine unskilled manual work under immediate supervision, and related work as required.

 

TYPICAL TASKS:

Operates Commission vehicles and equipment, such as, back-pack sprayers, all terrain vehicles, etc.

Operates hand tools such as, shovels, pitch forks, swing blades, bush hooks and wheelbarrows, motorized equipment and other equipment as necessary to maintain drainage sites.

Operates dump truck, loads and unloads dirt, timber, pesticides, refuse and other materials, as directed.

Works with crews engaged in source reduction activities and the application of pesticides for the control of mosquitoes.

 

Performs tasks as necessary in the maintenance of Commission property and equipment.

Performs additional tasks in the course of mosquito control operations as directed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.

Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma. Some experience in the performance of heavy manual work desirable.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Commission’s insurance carrier requires applicants to be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver's license and a Division of Motor Vehicle report acceptable to their underwriter.

Must pass appropriate medical examinations.

Must satisfactorily complete requirements and pass the State of Virginia "Registered Technician" certification during the probation period.

CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN MANAGER

 Kent Co., Fish and Wildlife – This position will assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of mosquito control marsh management projects and insecticide applications.  Responsibilities include: overseeing heavy equipment maintenance/repair; supervision of heavy equipment operators, conservation technicians, and mechanics; building/facilities planning, management, and maintenance; providing information for contract preparation, bid specifications, and budget planning; and some record keeping and data management.  Selective:  Experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.  Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.  Functional Capabilities Evaluation required.
